Trip Insurance
What is travel insurance
What falls under this so much used and widely appreciated form of insurance? Travel insurance has only one purpose and that is to keep you safe from harm. Although this type of insurance can’t keep you from physically getting hurt, it will keep you save from financial pain.
The coverage can include many different things but it should at least include the following coverage’s; medical cover, financial cover, and loss of possession coverage. Even when traveling inside your own country this is a must.
But where and when should you buy your travel insurance? Many times people tend to buy their travel insurance when they book their trip, but is this really the best way to go? When looking at insurance offered by a travel company always keep in mind that the cover might not be as picture perfect as you had hoped.
What would be a perfect alternative is just to talk to your insurance company that you have all your insurances through. Many times the cover will be much better and cheaper, and this way you know whom you are dealing with in case of a claim. It is even said that getting a year round travel insurance cover is always a smart thing to look at.
Many different ways for many different people and their needs, this seems to be the quote of our generation. And when it comes to buying travel insurance you will find that this is also very true for your choice of policies. Just to show you here are a couple of different policy forms: student travel, business travel, leisure travel, adventure travel, cruise travel, and of course international travel.
These and many more will be your choices to choose from. When picking the right policy form you will find that in many cases you might still want to add to these ready to go policies. So take your time and really take a good look at what is offered.
But what should you do if you have the need for additional insurance for let’s say, pre-existing medical conditions, or sports that have a certain level of danger involved in them? Or when you really want to visit a high risk country? In these cases and many more exceptions could be named, you can shop around for the best additional coverage packets. You will find that the prices vary heavily, but that’s why it is called shopping around.
There are however always standard exclusions to be found in a travel policy, and these are commonly as following: pre-existing medical conditions, war or terrorism coverage and of course pregnancy expenses as well as any condition or accidents that happen due to alcohol or drug related incidents. Many insurance companies include however, a help service that often covers you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. This is called a concierge service or emergency travel assistance.
But do always bear in mind that a good travel insurance policy will cost you about 5 to 7 percent of the cost of your trip. Remember to always check with your own insurance company first as you might find a year round travel insurance package to be cheaper and to have much better coverage.
